This is the most important event for the Asia Pacific's business community and is held annually during the APEC Summit Week, with the participation of nearly 1,000 representatives from leading corporations in the region.
Speaking at the event, Vietnam State President Tran Dai Quang discussed difficulties like global growth falling 3%, global trade reaching the lowest level for the past 15 years, and the struggles of climate change, international terrorism, disease, and security.
However, the fourth industrial revolution, agreements on climate change, extensive economic links like the TPP, RCEP and the ASEAN community promise to deliver broad development. The State President shared that in a changing globalized world, APEC should continue to drive creativity, growth, and economic integration.
“We need to strengthen connectivity in all three areas: infrastructure, institution, and people, developing global value chains, and promoting cooperation in economics, trade and investment, services, and tourism, with a view to enhance the resilience of our economies”, said the president.
State President Tran Dai Quang also mentioned the great achievements of Vietnam after more than 30 years of renovation, and stressed the efforts to build a transparent and efficient government. Vietnam is linked extensively with both sides of the Pacific through partnerships with the ASEAN Community and a network of 16 FTAs with 59 partners, of which 18 are APEC members.
State President Tran Dai Quang proposed that businesses make APEC successful in 2017 by attending the meeting in Vietnam.
“Through APEC's activities, especially the APEC CEO Summit, I call for your ideas and initiatives to specify the priorities for APEC 2017 and to promote the interaction between governments and businesses. We also look forward to your ideas to further the efforts to accomplish the Bogor Goals by 2020 and realise APEC's strategies, roadmaps, and action plans more effectively”, said Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang.
