Thanh Tiên Village is located at Phú Vang District, Thua Thien - Hue Province and is famous for its traditional paper-flower making craft that has existed for about 300 years.
After many years away from his hometown, artist Thân Văn Huy returned to Thanh Tiên village in 2008 determined to revive paper lotus flower-making. Lotus petals are made from poonah paper or painting paper, and lotus stems from dry rattan plants. Colouring the lotus petals is the most difficult process, because it requires the petals to gradually change in hue from rose to pink, then white. The artist's efforts have brought him Vietnam Guinness Book recognition.
Nguyen Van Trai, Deputy Chairman, Phu Mau Commune People's Committee Phu Vang District, Thua Thien Hue Province said: “His contribution to the Thanh Tien traditional craft is significant. He has also been co-operating with localities to pass down the traditional craft to youngsters.”
Huy's paper lotus flowers have been known through many Hue festivals as well as exhibitions in Vietnam and abroad. Thanks to his passion, Thanh Tiên Village is now a popular destination for tourists visiting Hue. In addition, artist Thân Văn Huy also opens classes to teach young villagers how to make paper flowers.

With his contributions, artist Thân Văn Huy was given the title of artisan craftsperson by Thua Thien - Hue People's Committee. This is his motivation to continue devoting time to the traditional craft of his village.
