A council study was carried out by the Mekong River Commission after the meeting of the four prime ministers from the member country of the commission. The study aims at providing update knowledge about the impact of upstream constructions on the river's basin. Based on the member countries' development plan, the researchers build the likely scenarios to provide suggestions.
According to experts, the countries' plans for building constructions on the main stretch of the Mekong River have to take into consideration its impact on the lives of people. Therefore, the council study was carried out with the participation of six countries the river flows through, not just the member of the commission.
The study is expected to complete at the end of this year. Its result will contribute to reducing the impact of the constructions on the rivers on the environment.
