The funds have helped local fishing families to resume production or open up new small business opportunities. In Ky Xuan commune, Ky Anh district, the incident affected 144 boats and ships, which includes about 800 fishermen and workers. Most of the compensation fees have been handed out, assisting boat owners to refurbish their boats and to buy new fishing tools. The province of Ha Tinh also has a separate policy to give out preferential loans to fishermen to build offshore fishing boats.
