These districts have high rates of illegal labour in South Korea, above 35%. This is a strict move by the ministry to force localities to call illegal labourers home.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, & Social Affairs will put a stop to the recruitment of overseas labour for the South Korean market in 44 districts, where the number of illegal labourers in South Korea is more than 60 people per district. Nghi Xuân district in Hà Tĩnh Province has the highest rate of illegal labourers, with 403 people.
Dang Si Dung, Deputy Director, Overseas Labour Management Department, Ministry of Labour, Invalids & Social Affairs said: "This measure is a way for labourers to take more responsibility when they end their labour contracts in foreign countries. Moreover, it’s an effective way for local authorities to propagate the proper policy to overseas labourers".
Based on statistics from South Korea, the ministry will continue to halt labour recruitment in localities which do not meet the required rates. Meanwhile, the 4 provinces affected by mass fish deaths can still recruit labour for the fishing industry in South Korea in November.
