The Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company in Quang Ngai Province is a familiar face at the National Quality Awards. This is one of Vietnam’s six largest businesses, with average annual revenue of about 5 billion USD, contributing over USD 1 billion each year to the state budget. The company’s corporate governance system was based according to international standards such as ISO and OHSAS, creating a professional working environment, allowing consistent and efficient management, administration and operations.
"When we received the National Quality Award, it was a real source of encouragement for our company employees, as they’ve contributed to the sustainable development of the petrochemical sector. The businesses that will receive the award this time are outstanding businesses, which have made significant contributions to the community. These businesses are likely to play a major role in the country’s international integration", Tran Ngoc Nguyen, General Director of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company, said.
Regardless of size and industry, any business can participate in the National Quality Award vote. Awards are based on 7 fields with scoring out of 1,000. These criteria includes the role of leadership, operational strategy, customer-oriented policies and markets, knowledge management, human resource management, process management, production and business results.
"To meet the growing needs of businesses in the context of integration, this award must be as good as other globally prestigious awards. For example, the US’Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is based on the same criteria as our awards. These criteria will be changed to keep up with the development of science and technology, science and management and corporate governance", Nguyen Nam Hai, Deputy Director General, Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, Ministry of Science and Technology, said.
However, even meeting the awards criteria is not enough if a business wants to stake a good claim as an innovator in this period increased integration.
The National Quality Awards are the only award that confirms the quality of the business that is defined by Vietnam’s law. It is currently one of the only measurement tools to help companies on their journey towards integration and growth.
