Facing a possible Zika virus threat, on Friday, March 25th, a health ministry delegation held a meeting with Lam Dong authorities to discuss Zika virus and dengue fever control and prevention activities.
After meeting and working with Lam Dong province’s Department of Health, the delegation from the Ministry of Health continued its tour by checking Lam Dong’s General Hospital’s medical facilities and equipment as well as treatment of communicable diseases.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Pasteur Institute has asked Lam Dong to step up the examination of sick patients, as well as collection of blood samples in areas popular with tourist to find evidence of the Zika virus. These samples will then be sent back to the institute in Ho Chi Minh City for testing.
As the Zika virus mainly spreads through blood and mosquito bites, primary prevention methods include keeping a clean environment and extermination of mosquitoes and their larvae. Lam Dong has started an anti-Zika campaign as well as training courses for its personnel to promote as much disease prevention efforts as possible.
