VTV.vn - Transportation plays a special role in the close relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

Transportation plays a special role in the close relationship between Laos and Vietnam. In order to promote this relationship, many transport infrastructure projects, including highways and railways have been implemented by the two countries and within the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Lao Bao International Border Gate in Vietnam's Quang Tri Province, and the Densavan International Border Gate in Savannakhet Province, Laos have officially launched a one-stop-shop customs model since early last year. The model has benefited cross-border activities, contributing to the growth of two-way trade turnover between Laos and Vietnam, with a 5 billion US dollar target expected in 2020. More significant transport infrastructure projects between the two countries have been implemented, including an oil pipeline from Hon La Port in Vietnam's Quang Binh to Khammouna in Laos worth 500 million US dollars.

A 760km highway connecting Hanoi and the Laos capital of Vientiane and a railway linking Vientiane and Thakhaek District in Laos with Mu Gia-Tan Ap and Vung Ang in Vietnam.

Over time, Vietnam has created favourable conditions for Lao to use Vietnam's seaports, especially in the central region, including Vung Ang and Cua Lo, helping Lao to become a dynamic transport hub in the region.

Transport infrastructure is considered as a key strategy in the development of the country. So co-operation in transport between Vietnam and Laos is expected to promote the development of more advanced transport links between two countries.
