Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with President of the House of Councillors Masaaki Yamazaki on Wednesday. The Vietnamese leader thanked the Japanese government for its official development assistance for Vietnam, while speaking highly of the Japanese legislature’s experience in drafting laws. Yamazaki responded that the Japanese upper house wanted to boost exchanges with the Vietnamese National Assembly in the coming time.
Japan’s relationship has reached it pinnacle, Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima said while meeting with the Vietnamese leader on Thursday. Both sides lauded the role of the countries’ legislatures in helping realise bilateral agreements, and agreed that as maritime nations, Japan and Vietnam need to enhance collaboration to maintain peace and stability at sea.
In his talks with Japanese Communist Party Chairman Kazuo Shii, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the solidarity and traditional friendship between the two parties. The Vietnamese party leader suggested the two sides increase the sharing of experience and information, and co-ordinate effectively with each other at regional and international forums.
The same day, Party General Secretary Trọng met with Okada Katsuya, President of the Democratic Party of Japan, who promised to strive hard for the pragmatic development of the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries. He hailed the DPJ’s contributions to the development of relations between the two nations, especially via the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group.
