30 companies from Japan and 60 local companies attended the event to discuss future co-operation in the agricultural sector. Agriculture firms from Japan and the Mekong Delta introduced their best products at the event.
Organic fruits and vegetables were popular and companies of both sides exchanged information for further co-operation and trade partnerships.
Nguyen Van De, Director, ANHITA JSC said: We’re considering importing some Japanese melon varieties to plant them in the Mekong Delta. We plan to export the melons to other countries or sell them domestically, especially the Mekong Delta region.
This manufacturer is planning to expand their vegetable farms. They have decided to replace old varieties with new ones after conversations with Japanese companies at the event.
"High-tech production lines don’t come cheap. But products from Japan are high in quality and will provide better profits. This will heighten the value of Vietnamese agricultural products.", said Ly Van Son, Deputy Director, ECOFARM, Kien Giang Prov.
Most Japanese companies at the event specialise in agricultural commodities and food processing systems. According to experts, high tech production lines from Japan will help improve the competitiveness of the Mekong Delta’s agricultural products in Japan and other markets. Current agricultural products are only preliminarily treated and aren’t bringing large profits.
Yasuzumi Hirotaka, Head, Japan External Trade Organisation HCM City said: Various agricultural products from Mekong Delta such as mangos and dragon fruit are currently exported to Japan and other countries. In the future, many other fruits from the Mekong Delta can be exported to Japan, but these products have to be good quality.
The event paved the way for potential trade ties and commercial co-operation between Vietnamese and Japanese firms. The Mekong Delta’s competitive advantages in agriculture should prove successful in the global markets and contribute to the region’s sustainable growth./.
