This event as part of activities to celebrate national tourism year 2016 in Phu Quoc and the Mekong Delta. The event drew 54 crews from 27 teams, including three international teams and three teams from the host province.
After the opening ceremony, racers competed at Dinh Cau beach to pick the best teams for the final round. The event attracted nearly 1,000 tourists and fans.
Hosting the event for the first time, the provincial authority hoped to fascinate both racers and tourists, while making sailboat racing more popular in Kien Giang and beyond.
