The atmosphere has been warm with the presence of the UN Secretary-General and his wife. For Ban Ki-moon and his wife, the charity fair this year is especially meaningful, as his term as Secretary-General will expire at the end of this year.
Ban Soon Taek, Wife of the UN Secretary General, Head of Orgarnization said: This is my last opportunity to be here holding this position. However, I will always try my best to promote meaningful activities like this. We will always be proud to support this charity fair.
The event, organised by the UN Women’s Guild (UNWG), drew the participation of more than 120 countries, doubling the number of countries that attended last year. It featured cuisine from around the world as well as fine arts and handicrafts.
The Vietnamese pavilion was attractive to visitors with traditional handicrafts and cuisine, introducing the beauty of the country and the people.
Dao Thi Le Na, Wife of Vietnamese Consul in New York, United State said: Last year we didn’t have a food stall and many foreign friends asked about it. This year we prepared traditional Vietnamese spring rolls. Our international friends loved it.
The charity fair aims to raise funds to help poor and disadvantaged people. In 2015, the charity held an event in New York that raised 130,000 US dollars to support women and children. The 2016 charity fair is expected to raise even more.
