This is the target that the southern branch of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) set. The branch made the announcement during a ceremony on Thursday in Hau Giang to launch a project to provide electricity to rural areas from the national grid from 2016 to 2020.
The project in turn is part of the national program to bring electricity to rural, mountainous and offshore areas of the country, setting a steppingstone towards poverty reduction and improvement of living standards.
From now until 2020, the project will provide electricity grids to 5 districts in Hau Giang province. In this year alone, 1,800 households in Hau Giang will receive power from the national grid at no installation cost. Also on Thursday, the company launched the same project in the southernmost province of Ca Mau, which is also expected to see 1,500 households connected within this year.
