As the northern and north-western provinces of the country continue to be hit by heavy rains and flooding, State President Truong Tan Sang led a governmental delegation to Quang Ninh province morning yesterday. The northern province has been one of the hardest hit in the recent days.
The state leader visited the Núi Béo coal mine that had earlier suffered from inundation and landslides. According to the Coal and Mineral Resources Corporation, its reserve can still meet up to 85% of the economy’s daily need for coal.
The state president’s delegation also visited and brought gifts to a number of patients hospitalised by the heavy flooding.
At a meeting with local authorities, State President Truong Tan Sang stressed that the local authorities should work with central ministries and agencies to focus on rescue efforts, resuming production and helping local people resume their livelihoods. According to Quang Ninh’s authorities, the recent rainfall has been the highest recorded in the past 40 years. As of noon Tuesday, flood-stricken areas had reported 17 deaths and 30 injures./.
