The Asia-Africa Conference kicked off on Wednesday in Jakarta, Indonesia under the theme “South-South Cooperation to promote world peace and prosperity”. Over one hundred delegates, including state leaders, from 105 Asian and African countries are partaking in this year’s conference.
Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang is leading a high-ranking delegation and attended the opening ceremony. This week's summit is part of a series of events marking the 60th anniversary of the 1955 Bandung conference, which was attended by newly independent countries from both continents at the time to work together and avoid conflicts. The ongoing summit seeks to foster greater cooperation between Asia and Africa to improve growth and prosperity on all sides, in line with the spirit forged in Bandung six decades earlier.
