The two sides discussed solutions to accelerate the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP). Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that it was important that the US government take into account the differences of the Vietnamese economy to facilitate the negotiation of the TPP. He also expressed his wish that the two countries tighten their strategic partnership.
For his part, Michael Froman said that in addition to accepting the characteristics of the Vietnamese economy, Washington would seek to get the best balance for both parties, and grant Vietnam the time necessary to enable it to fulfill the commitments as outlined in the agreement. Moreover, he stated that the US is ready to assist Vietnam in the technical implementation of the TPP.
