The guest judges of Của ngon vật lạ (Exotic Delicacy) all share a common sense of pride when they appear on the show. They enthusiastically connect with the audience by expressing their proud feelings about their hometowns, the places where they were born and raised. Editor Nhật Lệ fondly remembers her childhood playing various traditional games. Despite the scarcity at that time, children were always creative and invented various games such as spinning tops, catching grasshoppers,... A game that brings back memories for everyone is weaving a small basket out of bamboo strips or banana fibers.
Despite having the opportunity to travel to many places and enjoy various delicious dishes, editor Nhật Lệ firmly asserts, "There is nothing comparable to Bờ Đậu Chung Cake from Thái Nguyên," and proudly emphasizes the excellent tea in her homeland. She also expresses deep affection for the dish featured on the show: "Although Hanoi has many rolled dishes, Thừa Lâm Shrimp Roll has a distinctive flavor that stands out. It features the unique taste of well-cooked shrimp, creating a combination with traditional pork, glass noodles, fresh vegetables, especially with the addition of mustard greens, it gives the roll a rich, refreshing taste...".
With simple yet intriguing ingredients, Thùa Lâm Shrimp Roll not only brings a delicious and unique flavor, but also symbolizes the hospitality and traditional beauty of the local people. This dish is not only recognized by the local people, but also selected by the Vietnam Record Organization as one of the top 100 typical culinary dishes and specialties nationwide from 2011 to 2016. People in Thừa Lâm, from the elderly to the young, all know how to make Shrimp Rolls, making it a special dish often offered during village festivals, making it even more unique.
The highlight of the program is the challenge to create an entirely new dish based on the original ingredients of the featured dish. The Của ngon vật lạ (Exotic Delicacy) theme presents the "Fried Cake". Challenge for two participating teams: "Mr. Troc's Family" (Mr. and Mrs. Mai Xuân Việt and Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Quyên). Due to their family's preference for boiled and steamed dishes... They seem unfamiliar with frying. They only remember eating shrimp cakes and crispy pancakes, but with smaller shrimp. The "Yến Hoa" team (sisters-in-law Nguyễn Hải Yến and Phương Thảo) seems to have an advantage, especially with one member specializing in making pizza for her children, using various crusts made from chưng cakes, instant noodles, flour, baguettes...
Both teams are equal in skill and creativity, with clear ideas, and the allotted cooking time is the same: 24 minutes, which promises an exciting competition. The team of "Mr. Troc's Family" tries its hand at the traditional Vietnamese dish of fried shrimp pancakes, representing the distinctive colors of Vietnam. Meanwhile, the "Yến Hoa" team prepares a Thùa Lâm village-style shrimp roll pizza that combines the essence of European cuisine.
One traditional dish, one exotic dish, both teams bring their unique qualities and create excitement with each dish. The higher score is determined by how well team members manage their short cooking time to ensure their dish is more flavorful and crispy than the opposing team's.
The three judges, chef Hứa Nguyên Khải, food blogger Hương Ly, and editor Nhật Lệ, will decide which team will win. Find out the answer on "Của ngon vật lạ" (Exotic Delicacy) with the theme "Thùa Lâm Shrimp Rolls", airing on Sunday, November 19 at 12:00 pm on VTV3 channel.
