VTV.vn - The Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long has announced the ravaging effects of severe drought and salinisation. Nearly 13 thousands hectares of rice and vegetables in Vung Liem District have been damaged due to serious salinisation.

The province normally only experiences high salinity for 3 to 4 days over the course of a year, but this year, salinity levels have reached a record high of 2 months. The local authorities are trying their best to find and store fresh water. According to Agriculture and Rural Development, the Mekong Delta is facing the most severe drought and salinisation in nearly a century. This year’s severe drought and salinisation has occurred due to a fall in water from major rivers upstream combined with higher, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting explained.
