After 4 years of implementation, the law on the protection of consumer rights has shown some initial positive results. This law together with the recognition of March the 15th as a day to highlight consumer awareness and rights is the start of progress on this serious issue.
With the recent signing of various free trade agreements, Vietnamese consumer rights need to be protected and strengthened as part of moves to more effectively integrate into a global market where the consumer often comes first.
Protecting consumer’s rights is also the target of many domestic businesses, as negative public reactions to products can doom even the most well-meaning of businesses.
Vietnamese consumers are now having a day together with the existing law on protecting their rights. And with the growing presence of high-quality products and services thanks to increased globalisation, domestic firms are going to have to improve their consumer relations and ensure that that adage, that the consumer is always right, becomes a reality.
