VTV.vn - A recent study has shown that Vietnamese people spend about 2 and a half hours using a mobile phone per day, much more than the time spent on using other means of communication.

In 2016, it is predicted that the number of smart phones will exceed other feature-poor phones in Vietnam. This is expected to be a foundation for a boom in the number of smart phone-based start-ups.

Doing shopping… Booking a hotel… Or finding a petrol station. All of these destinations can now be found easily with the help of a smartphone.

Clingme is a mobile app that effectively connects customers and sellers.

"For the last 2-3 months, about 10% of my customers have found out about my restaurant via Clingme." - Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Restaurant Owner & Clingme User.

This mobile app was launched by a Vietnamese start-up a year ago and it has connected nearly 300,000 retailers to thousands of customers nationwide.

"Customers have increasing shopping demands while there are more and more retailers. So how can we connect them? That was my motivation to introduce the app." - Tran Quang, Mobile App Developer.

For the last few years, thousands of such mobile apps have been launched in Vietnam, which is fostered by a boom in smartphones. This has also led to the establishment of platforms for mobile apps purchases.

"Smartphones will continue to boom in the coming years. Therefore smartphone-based service providers will have lots of opportunities. That encouraged my company to join the market." - Tran Quoc Toan, Co-founder, Appota Company.

A recent study showed that Vietnam is one the 4 fastest growing markets for smartphones users in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Starting up a business based on smartphone helps young people save time and money and it also promises more chances of success." - Nguyen Manh Dung, Director, CyberAgent Ventures.

Not long ago, Flappy Bird - a mobile game – generated daily revenues of 50,000 USD and offered the dream of success for Vietnamese start-ups. With a smartphone boom predicted, more successful start-up models are likely in the time to come.
