The figures were released by the Ministry of Education and Training. According to this report, the highest number of overseas Vietnamese students is in Japan, with about 60,000 students, followed by Australia, the US, China, the UK and France.
Each student spends between US$20,000 on tuition and living expenses. This is considered a long-term investment for the future of many middle-income families in Vietnam. Currently, in addition to the increasing number of international students, the age for studying overseas is on a downward trend. Many families have started sending their children abroad right after secondary school instead of high school as was the case before.
