From now until the end of this year, more than 80 tons of Vietnamese mangoes will be sold in the Japanese market. This is a positive sign as exporters of Vietnamese agricultural products attempt to gain recognition in foreign markets.
The Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, in cooperation with AEON Mall representatives, launched a ceremony to introduce Vietnamese mangoes to Japanese consumers. Many Japanese people came and tried the fruit.
3,500 Cat Chu mangoes were exported to Japan. They were divided into two categories based on price: one type is sold at 3 USD, and the other at 5.50 USD. These prices are 10 percent of the price of mangoes produced in Japan, which means that Japanese consumer demand for Vietnamese mangoes is expected to be quite high.
AEON is the biggest retailer in Asia, with 3,000 malls in Japan. As such, it can provide Vietnamese mangoes with good exposure in the Japanese market. However, Vietnamese exporters need to improve their competiveness to maintain their position in a high quality market like Japan.
After mangoes, Vietnam is negotiating to export red dragon fruit, litchi and rambutan to Japan as well.
