At the center of the Vietnamese Community in Orange County, California, more than one week has passed since the dramatic race to the White House drew to a close, people here are still talking about it. The chatter concerns from the results of the election to the policies that president-elect Donald Trump will be implementing.
Vu Chung, a journalist living in Orange County, California said: “Some low-income-earning citizens, which are the majority here, are afraid that they will no longer be able to afford insurance. Immigration, however, is hardly a big problem for the Vietnamese community here. As for jobs, it is understood that the policies that Trump advocates will bring jobs back to America, which I think is a more optimistic view".
Election experts among the Vietnamese community in the US share a common opinion that president-elect Donald Trump will have to overcome many difficulties before he can fully implement everything he promised during his campaign, despite the fact that the Republican Party is now the majority in the House of Congress and the Senate.
“During the election, we saw a clear rift within the Republican Party. Therefore, Trump must negotiate and make some arrangements inside his own party in order for the majority to work well with him. For that reason, I don't think it will be easy for Trump to do everything he wants”, said Ho Van Xuan Nhi from Orange County, California.
In his recent statements, however, President-elect Donald Trump has shown a more careful approach about the policies he raised during his campaign, which are fundamentally more positive.
