On September 7, 1970, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam's first television signal was broadcast from Hanoi. Over more than half a century has passed since then and VTV has made remarkable progress, becoming the national television broadcaster and a key multi-platform, multilingual media outlet of the Party and the State.
Today, a new phase of development brings new opportunities and greater demands to VTV. In particular, the Party Central Committee has recently adopted regulations on political and ideological work within the organization, which spell out the principles of political and ideological firmness. To fulfill the important and honorable missions entrusted by the Party, every VTV professional must strive harder, take on greater responsibility, and continue creating television products that are accurate, well-targeted, humane, persuasive, and appealing.

According to Do Quang Anh, Head of the Political Political News Division of of the News and Current Affairs Department at VTV, the effectiveness of political and ideological work depends on the Party’s leadership capacity and combativeness. This new mission is also an opportunity for VTV to better fulfill its role, particularly by bringing major Party policies and resolutions into practice through concrete actions aligned with the Party’s strategic vision in a new era.
In this new era, VTV must embrace innovation and adapt to rapid national changes. The broadcaster must further leverage its strengths, modernize its journalism practices, and accelerate its adoption of technology to ensure both political integrity and the ability to meet the increasingly diverse audience demands.

VTV currently operates 12 free-to-air television channels and produces content for them, with a total annual broadcasting output of nearly 100,000 hours. At the same time, it is expanding its audience reach in the digital space through the VTVgo ecosystem, the national digital television platform.
In recent years, VTV has undergone significant changes in its development strategy and management, while actively applying artificial intelligence and big data to content creation and multi-platform distribution.

For the 55th anniversary of Vietnam Television's first television broadcast, General Secretary To Lam presented the broadcaster with these guiding words: “For everyone, at all times, everywhere, sharp and engaging”. These words serve as both a compass and a strategic direction for VTV in the new era. With the honorable mission entrusted to it by the Party, the State, and the people, and under the close leadership and guidance of the Party and the Government, Vietnam Television will continue to strengthen its role alongside other key national media agencies. It will live up to the trust and expectations of the Party, the State, and the public, driven by the strong spirit of innovation and dedication of its television professionals.
