Vietnam announces 10th case of nCoV infection

The Ministry of Health confirmed the discovery of yet another case of the new coronavirus (nCoV) in the northern province of Vinh Phuc on February 4, increasing the total number of infections of the latest strain of the nCoV nationwide to 10.

Information regarding the latest case involves a 42-years-old female patient from Son Loi commune of Binh Xuyen district in Vinh Phuc province who become infected by the virus after it was passed on through another person.

The transmission of the nCoV came from an acquaintance who was among the four people who had recently returned to the country from Wuhan and had been confirmed to be suffering from acute respiratory infections as a result of the new strain epidemic.

The pair came into direct contact during a festive visit to the infected women’s house over Tet sometime between January 22 and January 28.

The initial signs of acute respiratory issues began to show on January 31, along with other symptoms including a cough and a fever. Following this the women was sent for tests with the results coming back on February 4 confirming she had tested positive for the nCoV.

With confirmation of the nCoV through the positive test result, the patient is currently being treated in the isolation ward at the health care centre in Binh Xuyen district where she remains in a stable condition.
