A 30-year old male worker from Vinh Phuc who had recently returned from the Chinese city of Wuhan has become the ninth confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (nCoV) to strike the nation, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health.

The male patient is from Minh Quang commune of Tam Dao district in Vinh Phuc province and is one of eight people who recently returned from Wuhan together on the same flight.

Following the first case from Vinh Phuc to test positive for the nCov on January 30, the provincial Department of Health has implemented new measures in line with regulations set out by the Ministry of Health as a means of combating further outbreaks.

Policies include identifying individuals who came into close contact with the infected patient. This allowed the Vinh Phuc Department of Health to discover that the male patient was among eight other people who had just come back from Wuhan.

Of the eight, four have been confirmed to be suffering from acute respiratory infections as a result of the new strain of the nCoV.

The patient was taken to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and placed into a quarantine area while samples from the man were also sent to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for testing.

At present the patient is being treated in the isolation ward at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh district and remains in a stable condition.

Earlier, the patient had been among seven other Vietnamese people who were sent to Wuhan for training by Japanese firm Nihon Plast Co., Ltd.

Of the group of people who returned to Vietnam on January 17 on Southern China flight CZ8315 via Noi Bai international airport, four people have tested positive for the nCOV.

Upon their arrival in the country, they were picked up by company car and immediately set off for their company where they held had a meeting before heading home.

The patient’s samples were tested positive for the nCoV after being tested through the Realtime RT – PCR technique at the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
