Even the elders of Tuan Le village cannot recall when its signature coconut first became well-known. Coconut water here is distinctly sweet. Tuan Le coconuts have long been the pride of the village.
"The coconut water is naturally sweet. No sugar’s been added! The coconuts here grow near the beach, so they are both delicious and healthy." - Nguyen Thi Que, Resident, Tuan Le Villiage, Khanh Hoa Province
"It comes down to our special variety and the soil here. Local farmers take good care of the soil and coconut trees." - Nguyen Hoa, Resident, Tuan Le Villiage, Khanh Hoa Province.
Villagers here do not have much land to grow rice, and fishing activities are still fragmented. Therefore, their income mostly depends on coconuts.
Each coconut tree provides 15-20 coconuts per month, and each coconut sells for around 15 thousand dong, or 75 US cents, double the price of an ordinary one.
"Nothing earns as much income as coconuts. We can earn at least 3 million dong, or 150 USD per month from coconuts." - Tran Van Chu, Resident, Tuan Le Village, Khanh Hoa Province.
Classes that teach how to take care of the trees and prevent pests held in the village. This is aimed at building a sustainable coconut farming hub. Moreover, farmers plan to propose registering the Tuan Le brand to local authorities.
