Nguyen Van Tan in Chau Phu District, in An Giang Province has participated in the Thuan An Company’s tra fish supply chain for over 1 year. The 32,000 square-metre farm produces about 1,400 tonnes of fish per year. As part of the chain Tấn can access loans worth 700,000 USD at low interest rate. And in addition he benefits from cheaper input costs and guaranteed outlets.
Eight banks currently provide loans for 28 businesses in 22 provinces worth 300 million USD. The Thuận An Company works with 13 fish farming households and the company has seen several positive results from the programme.
The initial success of developing sustainable tra fish supply chains will hopefully pave the way for agricultural restructuring, especially for key produce in Mekong Delta region including fish and rice.
