VTV.vn - Protected marine areas in Vietnam are facing many challenges due to over exploitation.

This exploitation has a negative impact on biological diversity. To find solutions for this situation, a conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development and the local people’s committee took place in Ninh Thuan Province on today.

During the conference, participants emphasized the challenges that many protected marine areas in Vietnam are currently facing. The over exploitation of resources on a large scale is threatening the local eco-system.

Nui Chua national park in Ninh Thuan Province will become one of sixteen national conservations. There are about 500 different species in the park, among which 68 have high economic value. This area is also one of the four largest fishing grounds in the country. However, it is sharing the same challenges as conservation sites such as Con Co, Cu Lao Cham, vịnh Nha Trang, Hon Cau and Phu Quoc.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will also boost cooperation programs with international organizations to mobilize financial resources, implement the application of more high technology and train human resources. These activities will contribute to the sustainable development of the fisheries sector in Vietnam.
