This is Côn Muông, an ethnic group member who used to live the life of a nomad. Things have changed for him this year, as he has been given a brand new house in Ka Hẹp village, Tà Rụt ward, Quảng Trị province. With a new home and farm land, Muông is having the time of his life.
"I’m very happy this year. Thanks to the government’s help, I now have a place to stay and build my home, it’s very convenient. This year’s Tet is very joyful." - Con Muong, Ka Hep village, Ta Rut ward, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province
There are over 50 households in the new village of Ka Hẹp. Each household received 400 square metres of housing land, 1.5 hectares of farm land, as well as financial aid for construction. Over $800,000 has been invested in the village to build new roads, electricity, and clean water.

There are currently 33 resettlement projects in Quang Tri province, with thousands of households having established stable lives. The province is aiming for an additional 27 projects in 2020, with the current villages becoming their role model.
"We are running checkups at the model resettlement areas to ensure the facilities are of good quality and the local residents have stable jobs. With areas that are performing not as well, we are continuing our investment to make their operation more synchronised and effective, so that they can become model villages." - Ha Sy Dong, Deputy Chairman, Quang Tri People’s Committee.
With their new houses, no longer will these ethnic groups have to drift from place to place. Now that they are able to live and work on their own land, they can create a better future for themselves and their children.
