The Mekong River is the world’s 10th longest river and runs from China through Burma, Thailand, Yunnan, Laos, Cambodia, before exiting the sea in Vietnam. Therefore the Mekong Delta region, which is considered the rice bowl of Vietnam is heavily affected by whatever happens in upstream areas. As of the results, Vietnam has worked closely with countries in the Mekong region in order to preserve and protect the river, especially in the context of the recent El Nino-inspired drought and other fluctuations.
For the Mekong River to flourish it requires a spirit of co-operation and friendship to run from its headwaters to the sea, as it continues to nurture the lives of the millions of people that live along its banks.
