However, the Ministry of Health said that the possibility of infection in Vietnam is high, as the virus has appeared in other neighbouring countries. Therefore, preventative measures are being carried out across the country, including the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, which suffers the highest risk.
Besides founding response teams at national and regional levels, the Ministry of Health asked healthcare units in localities to continue supervising the situation and communicating effectively in order to respond immediately in the event that Zika infection appears in Vietnam.
The Ministry of Health established 8 task forces to inspect prevention efforts in 16 cities and provinces of Vietnam.
These task forces are meant to carry out their missions in April and link up with the local authorities and health institutions in Zika prevention. The Ministry of Health has promised to accelerate surveillance activities, increase tests, and provide contingency plans in case of an outbreak. The hotline is still operating 24/7 to assist citizens and immigrants in Zika prevention.
