Law on Temporary Custody and Detention discussed

Chairman of the NA Justice Committee Nguyen Van Hien delivered a report on the rights of people in temporary custody and detention. The report emphasised that the basic rights of all citizens under the Constitution will be upheld. However, they are restricted in terms of movements, communications, voting rights and exercising civil transactions.

Some deputies also proposed that there should be a specialist agency under the Ministry of Public Security that oversees temporary custody and detentions. The agency's function would be to maintain transparency and independence between the investigating and the detention authorities.
