VTV.vn - Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh asked Ho Chi Minh City to redouble their efforts to tackle the rising number of COVID-19 cases during a meeting with the municipal authorities on July 2.

He stated that the city should strive to bring down the number of new infections significantly by the end of July and completely curb the epidemic in August.

Deputy PM Binh said the city’s districts should proactively adjust their measures based on the local situations and may impose stricter restrictions if necessary.

He also asked the city to organise testing and vaccination properly to avoid mass gatherings.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Truong Son said the COVID-19 situation in Ho Chi Minh remains complicated as it has spread to neighbouring provinces and new cases are expected to continue rising.

He stated that the city should stagger the hours for taking samples to ensure appropriate social distancing, adding that samples can be taken right in neighbourhoods with suspected cases.

In the fourth outbreak of COVID-19 in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded 4,345 cases and 16 deaths as of July 1, according to Director of the Health Department Nguyen Tan Binh.

He attributed the latest outbreak to the more contagious Delta variant, elaborating that the virus has spread among families, villages and workplaces, especially in office buildings and frozen food manufacturing facilities.
