The event was jointly organised by the municipal People’s Committee and the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), in the presence of Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue.
In her opening speech, President of the VFF’s Hanoi chapter Nguyen Lan Huong said that despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the motto of leaving no poor people behind, Hanoi’s all-level VFF committees have actively propagated and mobilised donations for the city’s Fund for the Poor.
In the first nine months of 2020, the fund received over VND15 billion (US$643,765), financed the building of nearly 400 great unity houses for disadvantaged people, and provided loans to thousands of needy households, she stated.

As seen through surveys, many poor and near-poor households across the city are still in need of support, Huong said, stressing the urgent need for joint hands of agencies, units, businesses, Party members and people from all strata.
In response to the city’s call, dozens of agencies, localities, enterprises, organisations and individuals offered donations to the Hanoi Fund for the Poor right at the ceremony, which amounted to more than VND28 billion as of 9.30pm on Tuesday.
Within the framework of the programme, the organising committee performed the ritual to inaugurate 90 great unity houses which were built with capital from the Hanoi Fund for the Poor to support 90 poor households in eight districts across the city. In addition, 90 outstanding organisations, businesses and philanthropists with active contributions to Hanoi’s social security work in recent times were honoured at the event.
