Fishermen face difficulties due to lack of fish

VTV.vn - Tuna harvest season in the coastal province of Phu Yen hasn't ended yet, but several fishing boats are still anchored at shore.

Due to the low amount of tuna, the fishermen here have been facing many difficulties, especially since this is their main source of income.

180 out of 240 fishing boats in the city of Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen province have not gone fishing for almost two months now. The port has been quiet for a while. And there is isn't any tuna for traders to buy. One of the reasons for this is the low amount of tuna at sea.

Fishermen have to spend 4,400 USD on each fishing trip. Some of them are only able to catch just 5 to 7 tuna, which won't cover the costs. Several of them have already lost around 2,200 USD on trips. As most of the local people's livelihoods depend on fishing, many households have had to find new ways to maintain their lives.

Some fishermen have decided to repair their boats to make use of their downtime. But due to the absence of income, this, too, has become costly.

After sustaining losses from fishing trips, many fishermen have decided to remain on shore. However, this has led to the burden debt, creating even more difficulties for their future fishing trips.
