In support of flood victims in the central Vietnam, the President’s Office on December 21 launched a donation drive to collect aid for those affected by the floods.
On the occasion, President Tran Dai Quang urged Vietnamese throughout the country, as well as businesses, entrepreneurs, donors and Vietnamese expatriates to promote the spirit of solidarity and mutual support, by practical actions and participate in donation campaigns to assist people in the central region in overcoming difficulties after the flood and enjoy Tet holiday.
* The Central Party Committee’s Office has collected around VND410 million from its officials and public servants to help flood remedial measures.
* Yesterday afternoon, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh visited and presented gifts totalling VND400 million to Khanh Hoa Province to overcome the consequences of floods, of which VND200 million was directly given to local people and the remaining to support students to purchase books and learning equipment.

* According to the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, flooding from December 12 to date claimed the lives of 30 people, while leaving one missing, 19 people injured, nearly 20,000 houses flooded, over 50,000 ha of crops damaged and over 80,000 heads of cattle and poultry dead.
* It has been forecasted that the region needs 2,314 tonnes of rice seeds, 113 tonnes of maize seeds and 44 tonnes of vegetable seeds to help local farmers in flooded areas to restore production.
* Currently, floods are receding in local rivers, however, due to the combined effects of low circulation in the East Sea with a strong cold air expected to increase on December 26, from December 27-31 widespread heavy rains are forecast in the mid-central part of the central region, causing a possibility of rising water levels on its rivers.
