Ecological embankments - An efficient measure against landslides

by VTV417 August 2019 Last updated at 10:43 AM

VTV.vn - The Mekong Delta region loses around 300 to 500 hectares of land each year due to landslides near rivers and the sea.

One of the most common solutions is to build river and coastal embankments but they take a lot of time to complete and are quite expensive. However, creating ecological embankments by planting cajuput fences to protect river banks are less costly and more practical. After 2 years the model has proven to be quite effective.

Over the past 2 years, Phung Hiep District has built nearly 17km of ecological embankments and they've cost less than 86,000 US dollars. The model continues to be replicated and has created a green belt for the locality.
