Previously, they were taken unscathed to Jakarta on October 1 thanks to joint efforts by the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia and local authorities. The students had been in their dormitory when the powerful earthquake struck Sulawesi island. Luckily, they were able to escape before the building collapsed. Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang said that the embassy will work with Tadulako University and local authorities to ensure that the Vietnamese students are able to resume their studies as soon as possible.
