Dong Thap Province is expanding the Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve by 60 hectares under a project worth around 296 billion Vietnamese dong, or 11.3 million US dollars.

Located in Tan Phuoc two commune, the reserve currently covers more than 106 hectares and is home to around 70 native plant species and over 30 bird species, with more than 10,000 birds recorded.

The expansion will add 42 hectares of melaleuca forest, along with a canal, patrol roads, bridges, pumping facilities and fencing.

The project is expected to strengthen wetland habitats, conserve biodiversity and protect rare wildlife, while improving the ecosystem’s resilience to climate change. It is scheduled for completion in 2028.
