China releases water to ease drought in Mekong Delta

VTV.vn - China said it has discharged water from a dam on the upper Mekong River that will ease drought conditions in several Vietnamese locations, one day after Vietnam requested the move.

According to Chinese Minister of Water Resources, Chen Lei, Jinghong Hydropower Station has increased the volume of discharged water to 2,190 cubic meters per second, more than double the average. China will release water from Jinghong Hydropower Station to downstream areas for emergency use from March 15 to April 10. The move is expected to alleviate the current drought in Vietnam, as well as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. According to experts, the water will reach Vietnam in  10 to 15 days.
