Since early Feb, Tien Giang province has worked on ways to tackle drought and saltwater intrusion. Tens of irrigation sites have been built to channel more water to drought-stricken areas. Water has been pumped from 700 sites to over 21 thousand hectares of cultivated land. 10 kms of water pipes have also been built to supply clean water to thousands of households. The party chief highlighted such efforts and called on more.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: Constant monitoring of the situation is necessary. We should also continue efforts to maintain water supplies for living needs and cultivation. If there are any bottlenecks during implementation, the provincial authorities should tell us so we can solve it.
The Party leader paid a visit to Gia Thuận ward in Gò Công Đông district, which was hit hard by drought and saltwater intrusion. He said that concerted efforts are needed to carry out immediate and long-term solutions to tackle climate change impacts.
