As part of this effort, the two countries have facilitated trading in border regions at small trading locations as well as larger border gates.
Three times a week, Chan Rut from Don Commune, Romehec District in Cambodian Province Svayrieng enters Vietnam. She owns a small grocery store and many of her products are from Vietnam. Vietnamese border officials only need a few minutes to check her identification and let her enter Vietnam.
Buyers and sellers can use either Vietnamese Dong or Cambodian riel in this region, including at this border market. The Cambodian brings fruits, vegetables and food to sell here while buying consumer goods.
As border markets like this one have proven its significance, the two countries are developing a Cambodia - Vietnam Model Border Market at Chàng Riệc Border Gate in Tay Ninh Province. Once put into use and implemented in other localities, the model is expected to further trade, improving people's lives in border regions
