A year ago, the Goethe-Institut and partners jointly organised the conference “Creativity and Urban Development” with representatives of independent creative hubs from Vietnam, Germany and Great Britain, as well as Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia. The participants were introducing their initiatives and the cultural, social, financial and political aspects of their work.

Now an e-book with the conference contributions has been published: The editor and research coordinator of the conference, Michael Waibel, introduces it and wraps up the big cultural and economic potential of creative spaces for the development of a city. Michael Waibel is a researcher and project manager at the University of Hamburg.

How have the creative spaces in Vietnam developed by now? The legendary Zone 9 is still unforgotten and an important source of inspiration. What are the lessons learned for creatives of Hanoi Creative City , X89, Area 21 (Haiphong) or Workroom 4? What part do the initiatives play in the city and what are their perspectives? This is the subject of the discus“ion between the representatives of the creative hubs and the audience.
