VTV.vn - An outbreak of A/H5N6 influenza, also known as bird flu, which is transmittable to humans, has been detected in the central province of Phu Yen.

According to the local authorities, the outbreak was discovered in a poultry farm in Phú Hòa district on October 27. After just two days, more than 1,700 birds on the farm had been reported as dead. Samples of dead chickens that were sent for testing have confirmed positive for the A/H5N6 virus. The district has instructed the relevant agencies to keep a close watch on the neighboring farms and to establish a control center so that they can cull affected animals and provide sterilizations. They will also need to manage the distribution of poultry vaccines. Phu Yen is one of the largest poultry producers in Vietnam's central region and has a total of around 3.6 million birds.
