Organized by Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the conference saw the participation of numerous Vietnamese and international doctors.
At the conference, participants spoke highly of the family doctor model’s practical results, saying that since its implementation in Vietnam 3 years ago, the model has enhanced the quality of primary healthcare services.
So far, nearly 1,000 doctors have been trained in family medicine, and 240 family doctor clinics have been established in big cities nationwide, playing a major role in reducing overloads at central hospitals. Medical experts at the conference expect that by 2017, 100% of medical schools nationwide will have a family medicine curriculum, and by 2020, 80% of cities and provinces will have family doctor clinics.
