Witnessing the pains and consequences that traffic accidents bring to victims, 12 grader Tran Dang Khoa was determined to turn his anti-drink driving helmet into a reality.
"Since the police can’t check every single case and the alcohol sensors are only installed in cars, I think it’s important for motorbike drivers to have a device that can protect them. That’s why I invented this helmet", Tran Dang Khoa, Phu Bai High School, Thua Thien-Hue, said.
After spending a long time on his research, Khoa finally invented his so-called smart helmet. The helmet includes an alcohol concentration sensor, a receiver device as well as a sensor module. All of these can help his special helmet connect to the motorbike’s battery to stop the motorbike if any alcohol concentrations are found.
"Without the helmet, the driver can’t start the motorbike. But if they wear the helmet, it will check the alcohol concentration. If the alcohol concentration reaches over 40% then the device will automatically send signals to the driver’s relatives and issue a warning", Tran Dang Khoa said.
Tran Dang Khoa has received several awards for his inventions. He previously won prizes for his gas leak alarm and fire warning system. In the future, Khoa hopes to continue working on developing his inspirational passion for scientific inventions.
