The final lists were made after three rounds of negotiations as regulated by law. However, in order to select the best members to participate in local authorities, voters need to be responsible in their manner of selecting and casting votes.
Over the past week, Đinh Thị Cấp in Sơn Thọ Village, Phú Yên Province has been following all the news related to the elections. Vietnam's election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term will be held on May 22. However, Cấp cares most about the election of the people’s councils at the communal level.
Dinh Thi Cap, Phu Yen Province said: “The first thing that I consider before casting my vote is their capacity. Besides, I observe their attitude and lifestyle in the community so that I can select the ones who are both talented and virtuous”.
Nguyen Chi Trong, Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province said: “They have to be close to the villagers”.
Bien Thi Thiem, Phu Yen Province said: “They have to care about local resident’s lives and listen to our opinions. And they should make proposals that benefit local people”.
The capacity of candidates is among the criteria that voters take into consideration before voting. Assessing the capacity of each candidate is a particular action through which voters can exercise their voting rights.
Tran Thi Kim Hoa, Phu Yen Province said: “I learn about their capacity and what they have done during their previous term. That is a source for me to consider the candidates that I vote for”.
Voting is among the basic rights of Vietnamese citizens, regulated by the constitution and guaranteed by law. Besides the right to vote, voters also have a responsibility for selecting fit members to the people’s councils, which are to serve to the benefit of the community and society.
