The 230 million USD wharfs are 750 metres long and construction is expected to finish in 2018. They will be the north’s first deep-water berths that can receive large container ships.
Exports from Vietnam will be able to be shipped direct, meaning cargo routes will be faster and transportation costs significantly reduced.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that the terminals would boost Vietnam’s foreign trade. He suggested the city focus on promoting agricultural-industrial production, and pouring more investments into services, especially tourism.
