Vietnam to benefit from Paris Climate Accord

VTV.vn - A deal to limit the rise in global temperatures to less than 2 degrees Celsius has been agreed at the climate change summit in Paris after two weeks of intense negotiations. The pact is the first to commit all countries to cut carbon emissio

This accord is expected to benefit Vietnam, as the country is among the five nations that are the most vulnerable to climate change. If global temperatures rise by 2 degrees Celsius, sea levels will rise by another metre and inundate up to 39 percent of the Mekong Delta, including Ho Chi Minh City, as well as 20 percent of the Red river delta.

At COP 21, Viet Nam committed to reducing GHG emissions by 8 percent on its own and 25 percent with effective support from the international community by 2030. The country also pledged a 1 million USD contribution to the Green Climate Fund for the 2016-2020 period.
